Uganda Police force will arrested all boda boda riders found operating beyond the 6pm curfew time starting tomorrow Tuesday, the IGP has ordered.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, all territorial commanders have been ordered to resume operations and ensure that bars remain closed and that people are in their homes by 9pm every evening.
Enanga says they have been lenient and sensitizing Ugandans on how to stay clear of COVID-19, but that many people kept sneaking into bars to drink, despite them being on lock down.
He added that Ugandans were given chance to practice social distancing, hand washing and wearing face masks but they have not listened. Also, taxis, special hires, boda bodas and private cars will be inspected to ensure they are carrying the right amounts of people.
Those traveling upcountry must also adhere to the rules of moving earlier to ensure that 9pm doesn’t find them on the road. All highway road blocks that had been abandoned are to be re-instated tomorrow.
“This is a wakeup call that the joint leadership of security agencies is giving to all members of the public and we have warned officers that those who will fail to take action or enforce these mechanisms will suffer consequences in our disciplinary courts” Enanga warned.
The police mouthpiece says a security team has been working with other stake holders like Ministries of health and trade, KASITA and KCCA among other who have been carrying out inspections on arcades and other working premises on various SOPs within the Kampala metropolitan area.
ding to Enanga, the groups were looking at a number of areas in their inspections and in Mukono Municipality, many businesses were compliant. However, some facilities like Sombe and Good Quality Supermarkets, Lina Towers, Golden plaza, Mukono house among others have been blacklisted for failure to comply with the SOPs.
