The National Unity Platform – NUP party Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has received clearance from security to hold a campaign meeting in Gulu City this afternoon.
According to security guidelines, all presidential candidates must get clearance from police to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 preventive guidelines.
This morning however, Kyagulanyi was blocked from holding another rally in Kitgum after failing to secure a safer venue.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates are required to hold their campaign rallies in open spaces so as to comply with the social distancing requirements.
Today, Kyagulanyi is holding campaigns in Acholi sub-region.
According to Samuel Okot the Northern Region NUP Coordinator, the candidate is expected to address a campaign rally at Awere playground in Gulu City West Divisio after their application to the City Town Clerk, Edward Kiwanuka to hold their campaigns at Kaunda Ground in West Division was rejected.
Okot says that Kyagulanyi is expected to address his supporters between 2:00 – 5:00 pm after his trip in Kitgum Municipality and Pader Town Council.
Jimmy Patrick Okema the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed their engagement with Kyagulanyi’s advance team on Tuesday evening and that their engagement was fruitful as they agreed to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines.
