Several politicians have taken to social media to mourn the most outspoken Muslims Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata who passed on this afternoon at International Hospital Kampala.
Muzaata has been at the hospital for the last two weeks.
Joseph Mayanja, alias Chameleone who is standing for Kampala Lord Mayor described Muzaata as an idol and inspiration to many people.
“I have received very sad news of the death of my friend, Mzee Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata. It's so painful. Sheikh Muzaata was an idol and inspiration not only to me, but to many people. I admired his courage. He spoke the truth with vigour in a style and manner, few could. He was such a great cleric. We mourn to your death in such period where clerics of courage are not many. Rest in peace Mzee. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un” Chameleone wrote on his page.
The NUP Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has also called off his campaign trail to return to Kampala from the areas of Kapchorwa where he was today, to come join Muzaata’s family in this trying moment. He also wrote;
“What a sad day for me! What a sad day for the Muslim fraternity! What a sad day for our country!
I am still lost for words. It is difficult to come to terms with the fact that you are no longer in our midst, but that is life. From Allah (SWT) we come, and to Allah (SWT) we return. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.”
The only female candidate in the Kampala Mayoral race Nabilah Naggayi Sempala also mourned Muzaata on her facebook page. “Innalillahi wainaillaihi rajiun! May your soul rest in peace gallant warrior and speaker of truth! Kitalo nnyo Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata” She wrote.
Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who is admitted in Nairobi also mourned the outspoken head of Dawa and spokesperson for Kibuli Mislim faction. The sad news of the demise of Shelk Muzaata Batte has reached me here at my sickbed at the Nairobi Hospital and I feel extremely devastated. Life is nothing else but vanity. Enyiike n'ekiyongobero binzita bannange. Allah amusonyiwe byonna ebyamusobako amuwe ejjana Firdaus.
Inna Lillahi wa inna illaihi Rajihuuna.
