Bars and discotheques are to remain closed until such a time when Ministry of health shall re-evaluate their activities and be satisfied that they are no longer a threat.
In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, President Yoweri Museveni announced a national lockdown. Schools, bars, spas, open markets among other sectors were all closed.
While the president has lifted the lockdown in a phased manner, bars and discotheques are one sector he insists must remain under lock and key.
Dr. Ruth Aceng the health minister told the media in Kampala on Wednesday that in countries that have proceeded to a second lockdown phase, bars and discotheques have been identified as focal areas of spread.
“Considering the phase of the pandemic Uganda is in with rising cases and deaths in urban areas, suspension on bars and discotheques will continue” she noted.
Dr. Aceng added that the Ministry of Health will re-evaluate these activities in due course. “In the interim, the owners are advised to explore other businesses like restaurants attached to their premises which are safer.”
Meanwhile, casinos and gaming outlets remain open as well as mobile markets, while numbers for Worshippers in Churches and people attending political rallies remain at 200 people.
Cinema halls, gyms, massage parlors also remain open.
