Police, with the help of residents in Naisera and Makambo villages, Bumbobi sub County in Mbale District are searching for bodies of two girls who drowned in in River Nambale on Monday afternoon.
The two girls are part of the four victims of the same incident. Four children died at different spots in the same river yesterday. The victims were all Primary Four pupils at Naseira Primary School in Bumbobi sub County.
They were reportedly coming from school when they were swept away by the fast-flowing river which was overflowing its banks at around 03:00PM.
According to Stephen Mangali a resident of Namugongo village, one girl was recovered from each of the spots of the river, while the other two are still missing.
Perezi Musamali, the Chairperson LCIII of Bumbobi sub county noted that one of the girls wanted to save a friend who was drowning but she was unfortunately overpowered by the waters which also swept her away.
The Officer in Charge of Bungokho Police Station Oliver Namudoola said two bodies of the four girls had been recovered and the search for the rest of the girls was still on. She said the girls were crossing the river when they were over powered by the heavy floods.
