Kabale Man sentenced to four months in jail for disrupting burial of Late Governor Mutebile

Gerald Ayijuka, alias Maido Rutakirwa, a resident of Kekubo village in Kabale municipality, and Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Ghetto Youth in Kabale district has been sentenced to four-month imprisonment for being a public nuisance.

Gerald Ayijuka, alias Maido Rutakirwa, a resident of Kekubo village in Kabale municipality, and Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Ghetto Youth in Kabale district has been sentenced to four-month imprisonment for being a public nuisance.

Ayijuka was arrested for disrupting the burial service of the fallen Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile on January 30, at his ancestral home in Muruhita-Rwakatojo Village in Northern Division, Kabale municipality. 

Chaos ensued when Ayijuka, emerged from the congregation and attempted to snatch a microphone from Presidential Envoy Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

He was arrested and held behind the tent, interrogated, and later taken in a police patrol vehicle to Kabale Central Police Station.

Ayijuka was paraded before Kabale Grade Magistrate and charged with being a public nuisance on Thursday evening. He pleaded guilty to the offense and asked for a pardon, but the presiding magistrate sentenced him to four-month imprisonment for not wasting the court’s time.

He was immediately taken to Ndorwa government prison to start the sentence. 

According to Elly Maate the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, Ayijuka’s act created a security threat and upon police interrogation, he was proved to be under the influence of narcotic drugs.
