Police are investigating a fire outbreak at Nile Fibreboard Company in Nakasongola district which happened this morning where one person died on the spot and four others escaped with injuries.
The deceased is 19-year-old Abbey Ssesanga while three of the injured are Kenneth Otti, Paul Bogere and Peter Sande.
The police report indicates that the fire broke out at around 04:15 am at Nile Fibreboard Company in Kinoni village in Kakooge sub-county.
According to Brians Ampaire the Nakasongola District Police Commander, preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started from the Silo Sanding section and spread through the ducts to the Boiler section before it crossed to other sections of the factory.
Workers at the factory tried to put off the fire using their own firefighting equipment in vain until a team from the Savannah Regional Police Fire and Rescue Services reinforced them.
He adds that one worker was burnt to death while four others escaped with injuries and were rushed to St. Franciscan Health Center in Kakooge town council for treatment.
Ampaire says that the factory has been cordoned off as investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“It is alleged that fire could have been a result of circuit breakers, which sparked and triggered a fire at the Silo Sanding section," he said. By press time, firefighters were still battling a fire inside the factory.
