A man in Namutumba district identified as Elimiya Kawula, a resident of Kakoola A village in Ivukula town council has killed his six-year-old son following a fierce fight with his wife, Deborah Mutiibwa.
Kawula killed his son, Banire Kahereza before hanging himself in the wee hours of Monday morning.
It is alleged that before the incident, he engaged in a fierce fight with his wife Mutiibwa who collapsed after sustaining serious injuries on the head.
She is currently receiving treatment at Ivukula health center IV. Mutiibwa says that Kawula hit their son with an axe on the head, locked up the house, and strangled himself in the entrance area after suspecting that she had died.
She was rescued by passersby who forcefully opened the door after hearing her wailing helplessly in the house.
The area LC I Chairperson, Paul Musenero, says that the young couple has been seemingly living happily without any known history of domestic violence for the past five years.
According to Diana Nandawula the Busoga East Police Regional spokesperson, a team of detectives has commenced investigations into the incident.
Nandawula has advised the community members to desist from acts of domestic violence and embrace conflict resolution by seeking marital counseling from either the police child and family protection unit, elders or religious leaders.
