Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, the head of public health at the Ministry of Health, has reported a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in Uganda. The test positivity rate has reached 3.5%, indicating an upward trend. In light of this situation, he has appealed to health workers and individuals aged 50 and above to receive booster doses.

This development coincides with the recent announcement by the president, who declared that he had tested negative for Covid-19 after an 11-day battle with the disease.

Dr. Kyabayinze emphasized the ongoing presence of Covid-19 and urged all Ugandans to remain vigilant. He highlighted the rising test positivity rate as evidence of the ongoing threat. Specifically, he called upon those who are eligible, especially individuals aged 50 and above, to promptly obtain their booster doses.

It is worth noting that Uganda had previously declared an end to the Covid-19 pandemic last year. However, the country has witnessed more than 170,000 infections and sadly lost over 3,000 lives to the viral disease.
