Holy Father, Pope Francis will this afternoon arrive in Uganda for a three-day visit from neighboring Kenya where he has been since Wednesday this week, the first of his visit on the African continent.
As the long awaited visit comes, Namugongo and Munyonyo martyrs’ shrines have been given new faces, as these two are the core reason for his visit. At Munyonyo martyrs shrine, a new church, with the highest tower in Africa has been erected in a space of four months. Initially, the Christian community would pray from under the tree.
Today, the pope will officially Bless the new church for use on Sunday. Roads, lights, security, choirs, and all necessary preparations have been made at both shrines.

The Holy Father will upon arrival visit the state house where he will hold talks with his host President Yoweri Museveni, before proceeding to Munyonyo Martrys shrine where he is slated to meet the catechists and teachers, as well as the general public.
The pope will then hold Mass at Namugongo catholic martyrs shrine on Saturday, then Kololo ceremonial grounds with the youth, and the bakateyamba home in Nalukolongo.
He then leaves on Sunday to the Central African Republic (CAR) where his journey to Africa ends. He is the third pontiff to visit Uganda after Pope Paul the 6th in 1969, and Pope John Paul the 2nd in 1993.
