Former ethics minister, woman activist Miria Matembe has condemned the actions of minister without portfolio Abraham Byandala punching a journalist, and called for his immediate resignation.
Appearing on a local TV station this morning, Matembe wondered why Byandala continues to be a minister yet he currently has a case in court for looting tax payers’ money.
“Why should Byandala continue to be a minister? How is a man currently in court for looting our money still be a minister?”
According to Matembe, Byandala punching the journalist is yet another case of lawlessness and selective application of the law in this country, claiming the mafia minister is acting the way he does because he has protection.
“I lost hope in the government of Uganda long ago. It is not made up of people of integrity. When you have thugs and quacks constituting a government, a bad face is what we get. They have no name(s) to lose,” Matembe said.
She added that Byandala punching a journalist is a violation of human rights. It is a criminal offense.
“This government protects its thieves. It has no name. Byandala the "thief minister" is free. To this government, a minister punching a woman is nothing. They have no name to protect. Our ethics have gone so low in that the unethical is now unclear; it is hard to tell what is wrong and what is right. If the president couldn't drop Byandala over the Katosi scam, why do you think his latest actions will be seen as a crime?” Matembe wondered.
