Kampala Woman MP elect Nabilah Nagayi Ssempala has attacked the electoral commission and caused chaos at their offices after reports that the commission sided with Alex Odonga a voter challenging her election.

Odonga petitioned the Constitutional court to annul the election of Nabilah on grounds that it is unconstitutional. He also argues that the EC erred when it accepted Nabilah’s nomination and election.

Electoral Commissioner Lawyer, Eric Ssabiti has however sided with the petitioner, saying a city is not provided for in the constitution as an area for woman representation, yet it is the third respondent in the petition.

This morning, Nabilah showed up at their offices with a crowd saying she needs to find out how the third respondent ended up on the side of the petitioner.

Nabilah argues; “But for the third respondent, (Electoral commission) to turn around and become part of petitioner is what I came to really find out. How can a body that is not a limited liability company, that is maintained by tax payers’ money, that organizes elections in Uganda, has a legal department paid for every month that is not seasonal, come out and accept that may be the petitioner is right?”

She threatened to keep the electoral commission busy, claiming she will make their offices her new workplace.

“This is our century, this is the season for women, we cannot be stopped, we cannot be victimized, and we cannot be subjugated. That’s why there is an enshrined provision in the constitution of affirmative action. You cannot say that the whole of Kampala cannot have a female voice in parliament? That is unconstitutional. I call that treason,” she added.

Court said it would give judgment on the matter by notice.
