The 427 members of the 10th parliament will each receive 150 million shillings to purchase a vehicle for official duties.

This is a total of 64 billion shillings to be spent on the purchase of the vehicles, compared to 38.6 billion Shillings spent on vehicles in the Ninth parliament for the then 375 members.

Each vehicle for Members of the ninth parliament cost as low as103 million Shillings. Members will also receive Ipads worth 500,000 shillings each.

The director of communication at Parliament, Chris Obore explains that the funds will be released regardless of ongoing petitions against some members of parliament.

Up to 118 petitions were filed against Members of Parliament in the aftermath of the 2016 parliamentary election, and about 16 members have since been booted.

But Obore argues that parliament cannot deny legislators their benefits because of pending petitions.

Obore also explains that all MPs will receive Ipads in the next two weeks despite the pending petitions. He insists they are now official MPs until court decides otherwise.
