Opposition members of Parliament want government to present a report on the land previously sheltering Shimoni Demonstration School and the Nakawa-Naguru estates.
Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga gave the directive following complaints from opposition legislators during plenary on Tuesday.
Shimoni Teachers College and Shimoni Primary School were in 2007 demolished to pave way for construction of a hotel, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting-- CHOGM in Kampala.
In 2011, four years after demolition, an estimated 1,800 families were evicted from the Nakawa-Naguru estate measuring about 66 acres to pave way for construction of a satellite city by Opecprime Properties, a UK-based company in partnership with government.
However, the hotel construction at Shimoni has since stalled while the proposed construction of a satellite city at Naguru never even started.
Winnie Kiiza, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, told Parliament that the site has been abandoned and has been turned into a den of thieves. She actually wondered why government continually gives land to companies claiming to be investors and displace citizens.
She was supported by Bukoto East MP Hon. Florence Namayanja, who explained that as part of compensation, government was expected to build low cost houses in Nakawa and Naguru, where affected residents woul be given first priority but this has not been adhered to.
Kirunda Kivejinja, acting Leader of Government Business, promised that government would give a status report later this week.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga directed government to present the statement tomorrow Thursday.
