Incarcerated independent candidate Kassiano Wadri has beat all odds to emerge victor in the Arua Municipality Parliamentary election.
Wadri beat 11 other contenders to take the seat, replacing fallen Col. Ibrahim Abiriga (NRM). The candidate is however unable to celebrate with his supporters as he is behind bars in Gulu.
According to results received by Howwe.Biz, Hon. Wadri polled 6,421 against NRM candidate Nusura Tiperu's 4,798.
Other candidates in the race were FDC’s Bruce Musema 4th position with1369 votes, DP’s Kennedy Madira, Jaffar Alekua foe Jeema, and independent candidates Safi Bavuga, Robert Ejiku, Sunday Anguandia, Jackson Atima, Alfred Nyakuni, Simon Avutia, and Francis Elton Nyero.
Wadri was arrested along with Bobi Wine and other MPs on Monday for inciting violence when members of his procession allegedly attacked the president’s convoy, and attempted to disrupt other rallies of NRM and FDC.
He is expected to appear before Court in Gulu tomorrow. According to Josephine Angucia, the North-Western Regional police spokesperson, Wadri and Kyagulanyi have been charged with treason and malicious damage of the president’s vehicle.
She adds that a pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition was found on Wadri during his arrest. The MP elect however told police he has a license for the firearm.
