The Toro Kingdom Queen mother, Best Kemigisha is in deep trouble over land issues.
Mother to his Highness the King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, has been dragged to the land commission by the royal family members led by Prince Gilbert Atwooki Mujoya and Princess Damalie Kankya.
The royals appeared before the commission of inquiry led by Justice Catherine Bamugemerire accusing her of grabbing kingdom land and selling cultural sites such as burial grounds of their forefathers at Kagoma and Burongo in Kibitto and Kisomoro sub-counties respectively.
Evidence presented to the commission showed that upon the death of the King in 1995, the Queen acquired letters of administration as a sole administrator of the estate in 1999 and later transferred the land into her names which led to the subsequent sale of the land.
Prince Mugoya, brother to late Kaboya told the commission,
"As a tradition, the king (Kamurasi) left a will and appointed guardians of his 27 children but those who were above 18years. For us who were younger were subjected to the trusteeship of Kaboyo( Queen Mother's late husband) by way of a certificate of succession and Our brother had kept our share until the Queen mother sold it off," narrated Prince Mugoya.
He further went on to tell the commission that, "We approached the Queen Mother with all the facts to have the land transferred to the rightful owners but she refused."
The commission is yet to come to a conclusion.
