Joel Ssenyonyi recently took a famous turn from journalism to politics. He was appointed People Power spokesperson, a move that raised huge debate. He was berated as much as praised. Critics said he had been hiding in journalism yet all along he was an opposition politician.
In his defense, Ssenyonyi said that even journalists are human beings. “When I saw injustices, I had to speak up. When you’re a journalist, it doesn’t imply that you must glue your mouth to the wrongs happening. Most of the injustices affect all of us regardless of one’s status.”
His appointment as spokesperson is said to be a ladder to a bigger ambition- running for political office. In an interview, Ssenyonyi however revealed that he is concentrating on being a spokesperson. That he has no political ambitions.
