Henry Kalungi, a Uganda Cranes central defender, who plies his trade in the USL Pro side Richmond Kickers has been invited for a week-long trial with South African side Bidvest Wits in what observers could term as a backtrack.
Kalungi, 25, has been eyeing a lucrative move away from the USL league, the third tier of American football, with Major Soccer League side DC United the major suitors.
“Henry Kalungi invited for week long trial with South African Premiership side Bidvest Wits F.C.,” a brief statement on the player’s Facebook wall read.
Kalungi withdrew for the squad that lost 2-1 to Zambia on Wednesday after it emerged that he had lodged his passport with the South African embassy for a visa application.
