The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom (BKK) MTN Enganda football tournament and bicycle racing competitions wrapped up an exhilarating calendar year of sports action in Kagadi on Friday. Both events showcased fierce competition, community spirit, and thrilling moments.
In a closely contested football match, the Abagimu clan defeated the Abahemba clan 1-0 to secure their spot in the next round. The game, held at the Kagadi SS playground, drew a large crowd of passionate supporters from both sides. Despite a valiant effort by the Abahemba clan, Abagimu’s solitary goal proved decisive.
The victory marked the conclusion of the 2024 BKK MTN Enganda football calendar. The tournament will resume in January 2025 with the finals and remaining matches in the districts of Kakumiro and Kagadi. However, the event was not without setbacks, as the Abayaga clan failed to participate, leaving only two teams in action.
“We are happy to have qualified for the next round, and we appreciate MTN for their support,” said Julius Abigaba, head coach of the Abagimu clan team.
During the event’s opening ceremony, Owek. Moses Atuha, representing the Chief Administrative Secretary of BKK, commended MTN for their continued support of the games. He emphasized the importance of the tournament in fostering unity and peace within the kingdom, as well as providing exposure for talented individuals. Atuha urged players to maintain discipline on and off the pitch, highlighting the tournament as a platform for fun, friendship, and unity.
“We promise full support to MTN from the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, and we hope our longstanding friendship continues to thrive,” Atuha said.
The BKK MTN Bicycle Racing Competitions also kicked off with great enthusiasm, drawing both participants and spectators to the Kagadi SS playground. The event was flagged off by key officials, including Owek. Moses Atuha, Owek. Sebugwawo Godfrey, Owek. Byamukama Francis, and MTN Uganda Territory Manager Mr. Nabeta Samuel.
“The bicycle racing competitions and the upcoming Enganda football tournament aim to bring the community together, promote development programs such as coffee planting, and inform the public about the kingdom’s initiatives,” said Owek. Moses Atuha.
Competitors displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the race, underscoring the spirit of sportsmanship that defines the event. The tournament continues to foster unity and excitement as it progresses to the next stages.
