Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom's much-anticipated MTN-sponsored Enganda Football and Amasaza Bicycle Races kicked off in thrilling fashion today (Friday, 22nd November 2024) at Jeeja Primary School grounds in Kigumba Town Council, Kiryandongo District. The opening ceremonies marked the start of the tournament, designed to celebrate talent and promote fitness within the kingdom.

The event featured an electrifying football showdown between Abaswasima and Ababworo. Abaswasima delivered a commanding performance, securing a 2-0 victory in the first match of the tournament.

The Amasaza Bicycle Races also drew significant attention, with competitors from Kibanda North and South Counties showcasing their cycling prowess on the local circuit.

Representing the Chief Guest, the Bunyoro Kitara Premier, the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mr. Katusabe Alex officiated the opening ceremony. He commended MTN Uganda for its sponsorship and encouraged the people of Bunyoro to actively support and participate in the events.

“These competitions are vital for promoting talent and health among Bunyoro’s people,” said Mr. Katusabe. He further revealed plans to establish bicycle racing clubs across the kingdom, emphasizing the sport's potential to foster discipline and community spirit.

In addressing the participants, Mr. Katusabe offered a word of caution about the dangers of drug use. “Drugs will not help you but instead ruin your future. Stay focused, and use the prizes or money you win effectively to ensure personal and communal development,” he advised.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the Enganda Football and Amasaza Bicycle Races underline the importance of fitness and talent development within Bunyoro. "These games are more than competitions; they are exercises that improve our health and enhance our lives," added Mr. Katusabe.

The first day’s events have set an exciting tone for the rest of the tournament, with high expectations for the football and bicycle racing competitions to continue building momentum. Fans and participants alike are eager to see how the talent on display will inspire future sporting initiatives within the kingdom.

As the kingdom rallies around these events, the partnership between Bunyoro-Kitara and MTN Uganda continues to showcase the transformative power of sport in uniting and uplifting communities.
