Police in Mbarara Municipality have in custody Bosco Mugarura, a town agent attached to Rwemigina ward in Kakiika division, for soliciting a bribe worth 200,000 Shillings.
The suspect was picked by police as he collected the money from a UPDF Officer Captain Ninsiima Rwemijuma, whom he found at his construction site in Kakiika ward - Kakiika division.
He had reportedly threatened to have the construction site suspended by the municipal authorities. But his luck ran out when the owner of the site Captain Ninsiima Rwemijuma alerted the municipal authorities and police leading to his arrest.
Kakiika Division Chairperson Gumisiriza Kyabwisho told our reporter that the suspect has a record of complaints against him for extorting money from locals. He however had eluded the division's top leadership.
He says that the town agent, at the level of a parish Chief, had reached the extent of obtaining money from wards that are outside his area of jurisdiction.
Kyabwisho says that several people turned up with complaints after learning of the town agent's arrest.
Mbarara district police commander Jaffar Magyezi says that investigations into the matter have already commenced. They are also on the hunt for Deo Mujurizi, a law enforcement officer attached to Kakiika division who was in the company of the suspect at the time of his arrest.
