The police have confirmed that their own corporal Wagaba Gonzaga fired the shots that killed local singer Cornelius Oloya alias Master blaster at a hangout in Bwaise.
Adressing the media this afternoon, police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that Corporal Wagaba is currently detained at Kawempe on murder charges as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Wagaba claims revellers attempted to grab his gun, forcing him to shoot at them.
However, Enanga explains that the incident did not call for such an amount of force. "We were policing a situation involving drunkards who were not armed. About seven officers had responded, they had actually contained the situation. It was a matter of grabbing and arresting these people. It didn't warrant going to the extent of releasing bullets." says Enanga.
He added; "By the time you release a bullet and it gets somebody in the stomach, that shows that you have pointed it on a level not to scare but to injure or wound the person."
