825 people have been arrested in the three months of operation Fika salama on the Masaka-Katuna High way.

825 people have been arrested in the three months of operation Fika salama on the Masaka-Katuna High way.

Felix Kaweesi, the police spokesperson says the biggest number of these had no driving permits as they were either outdated, or had none.

According to Kaweesi, between 11th and 28the August, 352 cases of the 825 are related to driving without valid permits, 42 are as a result of careless driving, while 129 are as a result of driving DMCs.

Police traffic department in partnership with the ministry of works and transport together with Uganda National Roads Authority, UNRA introduced operation Fika Salama after a series of fatal accidents that claimed many lives on Masaka highway.

Kaweesi explains that “the operations on safe driving are going on well and we are beginning to see compliance on the road.”

He warns that the operation will continue until all bad drivers are brought to book and sanity returned to the road.
