Three people have been arrested by Authorities in Rubanda District after they were found smuggling seventeen boxes of immature fish. The fish was impounded at around 07:00pm last evening at Muko police check point along Kabale-Kisoro road and its owners arrested.

According to Rubanda District Fisheries Officer Donat Rwaributware, the boxes were loaded on a Malayika Bus registration number UAZ 152J from Buwama in Mpigi District. The longest of the impounded fish measured ten inches long contrary to requirements of the fisheries act that fish should be above 20 inches before it is fished out of the lake.

Rubanda District Fisheries Officer Donat Rwaributware says that police launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports about the transportation of immature fish on a Kisoro bound bus.

Rwaributware says that the boxes had different names of traders who were not in the bus. However he says that police arrested three people identified as David Nzabonimpa, Marion Murungi and Christine Nsengimana, to help them with investigations.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi region says that the trio will appear before court to answer the charges accordingly.
