Police are investigating circumstances under which a guard attached to Radatex security shot dead a suspected thug at Nsawo Estate in Namugongo division in Kira Municipality of Wakiso district.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigyire identified the deceased as Ezra Tushabe, a resident of Kawempe division in Kampala.
According to Owoyesigyire, the incident happened in the wee hours of this morning when the guard who was on patrol with his colleagues heard someone breaking into the house of one of their clients only identified as Paul.
The guards moved closer and saw three men dressed in dark coats who however took off immediately they saw the guards approaching. One of the guards identified as Denis Okiror shot in the air to stop the thugs in vain, forcing him to aim and shoot at Tushabe, killing him instantly.
Ephraim Maka, the officer in Charge Namugongo Police Station was notified about the incident and dispatched a team of detectives to the scene who recovered the deceased’s body and took it to Mulago Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Oweyesigyire noted that police recovered breaking implements, a phone and wallet and car keys from the scene, and also found the front door of Paul broken, though nothing was taken. The officers also recovered a receipt of Kigumba Butto fuel station parking with serial number 501 indicating motor vehicle UAM 156K, which is suspected to have been used by the thugs.
The number plate on the receipt however was later found to be fake because the actual number plate of the vehicle found at the scene is UAM 176K. Police towed the vehicle.
