An alert police officer on Wednesday morning foiled an attack on Nakulabye Police station plotted by unknown gunmen.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, a suspected attacker approached the police station at about 4 am today with an AK 47 rifle loaded with live ammunition.
Owoyesigyire says the police officer (names withheld) was on duty as a station guard when he identified the suspected criminal from a distance, on the western side of the police post.
He says the suspicious officer immediately started firing live bullets to disperse the suspect who responded by fleeing the scene, leaving behind his AK47 Magazine with 5 rounds of ammunition.
Police have since sent a team of investigators with the help of canines to follow the direction the attacker took but in vain.
Owoyesigyire says investigations into the matter have commenced and police are currently retrieving CCTV footage to identify the attacker and their movements.
This is the third attack on a police post in less than one month.
Last week on Thursday, unknown gunmen riding on a numberless motorcycle stormed Kesington police post in Kyanja and fired live bullets before fleeing into oblivion.
The assailants shuttered the windows at the police post but left no injuries or deaths.
Prior to that attack, assailants shot dead two police officers and injured two others in a vicious attack at Busiika Police post, in Luwero District. They disappeared with two guns.
Police are still investigating all incidents and reviewing CCTV footage, no suspect has been arrested in relation to the attacks.
