“The driver is with us now at the Traffic Directorate headquarters in Nateete. We are going to take action on him for using a phone while driving,” Nampiima said on Wednesday.
Nampima also stated that using a phone for any purpose like texting, or listening to anything on Bluetooth or headsets while driving attracts a fine of 100,000 shillings.
“If you use the phone to respond to a WhatsApp message and you are caught, the offense stands since you have used a handheld mobile for communication,” — she explained
Tenywa is the second driver to be arrested and fined under similar circumstances. On Wednesday, Traffic police nabbed another bus driver identified as Fikiri Brown Joseph, working with Global bus company.
He was captured at Kyengera along the Kampala-Masaka highway and held at Kyengera Police station.
