Kampala international hospital has denied claims that they produce fake nurses as reported in a local Newspaper this week.
According to the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, the university runs its own hospital and has a partnership to even help out in regional referral hospitals.
He told journalists this morning, that the university’s western campus in Ishaka has enough and the best labs in the country.
Adding that the university was recently inspected by a team from the East African Community who said the school of medicine at KIU meets minimum requirements for training of medical doctors registrable within the EAC as set out in the guidelines.
On Monday, the Observer listed KIU among universities in Uganda producing fake nurses, something Mpezamihingo denies.
“The hospital at KIU is now able to provide free antenatal services and free deliveries to mothers and our c-section cost to the mother is I think the lowest we can have, only 50,000 shillings for C-section” said the VC.
He added; “Like other well-meaning healthcare institutions we also provide free ARV, treatment and free HIV testing at counseling in addition to free TB treatment.”
KIU boasts of training doctors and nurses for the region, including students from Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria, Malawi, Botswana, Gambia and Namibia.
Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa, the Vice Chancellor, KIU western campus says the allegations in the Observer are not true and as a University they have structures followed for admission and their programs are accredited by the National council for Higher education.
