The speaker of parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has officially defended her decision to host the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU-IGAD) executive council meeting at her own hotel in Kamuli arguing the delegates wanted to see the country-side.
Kadaga is hosting the 9th IPU-IGAD Executive Council meeting which kicked off on Sunday morning including speakers and representatives of parliaments from Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Djibouti, Kenya and Somalia at her Century Hotel in Kamuli.
Kadaga’s decision to host the meeting in her hotel raised eyebrows with some sections of the public accusing her of conflict of interest.
She however, defends the decision, claiming that on many occasions such meetings are held in Kampala where delegates fly in, sit in the hotels and go back to the airport without knowing the country and its high time they saw how beautiful Uganda is.
Kadaga indicates that they decided to show the IGAD delegates where Ugandans live, how they cope and the development challenges they face.
