Three people died, 2 are missing and 12 were rescued when a boat they were sailing on capsized. The incident happened on Saturday in Namayingo district.
Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima explains that the 12 people were rescued by a Samaritan single handedly. They were moving from Bugoto to maniga beach in Sigulu.
Kayima identified the deceased as Bwoza Kethan, Nabilye Lukiya and Hadijja Muhamad.
According to the police mouthpiece, victims were the waters after 9PM, which is very dangerous especially without life jackets.
Kayima further identified the courageous Youngman that rescued the sailors as Ivan Ssemalulu, 22. He said Ssemalulu deserves an award for this act.
“A good Samaritan who was on the lake realized what had happened and run to their rescue. He rescued 12 of them. This one deserves a medal. So he did a good job. We need to work with such people” Kayima said.
He warned fishermen and other people that use boats as transport means to always travel during day time and carry life jackets at all time.
