Disgust has filled the residents of Bizenga village in Nyundo Sub County, where two mentally stable parents allegedly aided in the defilement of their own 16 year old daughter.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson identified the shameless couple as Flugensi Hakizimana and Sicora Kemirembe. These are accused of sanctioning the marriage of their underage daughter to one John Asiimwe, 19, a resident of the same village.
Asiimwe, according to Izdol Tumusiime, the district councillor representing Nyundo sub-county, paid 1.5 million Shillings and one cow, to the parents as bride price before they sanctioned the union between Asiimwe and the minor.
Maate told Howwe.Biz that Hakizimana, Kemirembe and Asiimwe, were arrested on Sunday afternoon at Bizenga Catholic Church where they had convened for the holy matrimony service.
According to the police mouthpiece the ceremony, which police foiled, had been presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Sebatware of Mutolere Catholic Parish. The three are now held at Kisoro Police Station while the clergyman has been summoned to record a statement at police about the matter
Maate cautioned members of public to stop marrying off little girls, and blamed the priest for failure to realize that he was marrying off a minor.
“I want to warn our parents from acts of lawlessness that violet rights of children. I also want to caution religious leaders to take heed. I expected them to have looked at this girl’s baptism card to know she was not yet of age. We are all supposed to protect young ones from such dangers.”
