Uganda Police Force and army in Oyam district are on a joint operation to re-arrest the two notorious robbers who escaped from custody, taking with them a police firearm.
Robert Atim, 38 and Bernard Ochan, 30 all residents of Myene Sub County in Oyam District escaped from custody at Oyam CPS on Sunday after reportedly attacking a police Constable Daniel Aluku who was on guard duty and subsequently made away with his firearm number UG POL 564804 28-24076.
The officer has since been held at Oyam CPS over negligence of duty.
According to John Peter Ematu, the North Kyoga Regional Police Commander, they have mounted a joint manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
"I am sure we shall get them, they will have to face the law. They cannot defeat us at all" he said.
The army, operating along the Murchison Fall National Park have also joined the hunt for the suspects.
The duo who was being held on an allegation of aggravated robbery under CRB 239/2018 are said to be known poachers who operate along Murchison Fall park in Oyam district.
