Ugandan youths should quit whining about the lack of jobs, but instead be grateful to the NRM government for immunizing them against killer diseases at an early age.
Unemployment among the youth was one of the key issues tackled by President Yoweri Museveni last evening during the nation address at state house Entebbe.
Mr. Museveni told the nation, that his government has ensured the nation has healthy youths who are highly educated, and that this solves 50% of the problem. He then promised that more jobs especially in the manufacturing sector are being created.
“Yes, there are many unemployed youths, but is this a bad thing? Remember where we started, we immunized them in childhood, they did not die. We have educated them, unfortunately some of them did courses which don’t easily find jobs in the market” he said.
The president also accused Non government organizations of using youths for dubious deals including scenes of riots that have rocked the city several times in the past years and recently after the Arua municipality by-election.
According to Mr. Museveni, NGOs pay UGX 100,000 to youths to burn tires in the city. He also revealed that security thwarted an attempt by youths to burn fuel stations in Kampala. The president also accuses the NGOs of funding these acts. Adding that these organizations are funded by foreigners, who are motivated by opposition figures.
“The allegations go that foreign money through NGOs is given to some of our youths to burn tires on the road. If you burn tires on the read, you are given 100,000 Shillings to give impressions of instability.
They were planning to burn petrol stations, and the price was 300, 000 Shillings. They couldn’t because we cannot allow them. The state of Uganda will not allow anybody to burn Kampala as they hoped for. We blocked all those plans” the President says.
Mr. Museveni said youths are an asset who should be funded to join manufacturing some products that Ugandans import from Dubai, China and other countries. He mentions furniture, shoes; posho among others can be manufactured here.
