Former Forum for Democratic Change, FDC President Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu has announced a new formation which will use different strategies from other parties with hope of bringing about unity.
Gen. Muntu made the announcement at a press conference in Kampala this morning. The new formation believes in democracy, good governance, gender equity, transparency, ethics, discipline, national cohesion and unity.
The general and a group of his supporters walked out of FDC on Tuesday after at least 9 months of grassroots consultations. He says their departure is in good faith.
“Our departure is in good faith and we believe that this action is mutually beneficial to FDC and those of us leaving. At the end of the day, we are working towards the same goal.
Our commitment to a united opposition is more real, we shall keep our dialogues real and we shall ensure an open door policy between us and FDC” the general calmly articulated.
He added that as a group, they believe that no single political party can rescue the country from a ‘dangerous path’ it is currently trading. With a tagline “Country Before Self,” Gen. Muntu says Ugandans need to work for a country where police fights for all, where Ugandans are brothers and sisters, friends not enemies. “Our new formation will use different strategies from other parties, but our goal will be the same” he says.
The general argues that no one can achieve ‘One Uganda one people if you don’t achieve truth and justice.’ He says DP and FDC should work together adding that his party shall not engage in malice against others.
The former Chief of Defence Forces advised FDC leadership to stop saying they are shocked and lead their party, meet soul search like he is doing.
He also decried continued branding of his person as Museveni Mole, arguing that if he were a mole, he would not have left the party. He however says this is not the first time his calm person has been branded a mole.
“Some say I am a Museveni Mole. If I was a mole, I would remain in FDC to destabilize them. I am instead allowing them to stabilize. Time is important; there will come a time when people will know who the real moles are. Time. Even when I went to the bush with NRA in the early 80s, I was called a mole. They said the son of Muntuyera cannot fight UPC. I discovered years later that I had been put under surveillance by the commanders, until I proved myself” Gen. Muntu said.
At the presser, Gen. Muntu was surrounded by several politicians including former FDC Secretary General Alice Alaso, FDC MPs; Kasilo MP Elijah Okupa, Paul Mwiru Jinja East, Herbert Ariko Soroti Municipality, Angeline Osegge and Soroti Woman MP.
Also present were Independent MPs; Gerald Karuhanga Ntungamo Municipality, Anna Adeke for youths, NRM; Mbwatekamwa Gaffa MP Kasambya and JB Nambeshe MP Manjiya. FDC party electoral commission chairman Dan Mugarura and Gulu LC 5 Chairman Martin Ojara Mapenduzi were also present.
He asked all Ugandans to join the new formation, including journalists, if they are allowed to. Asked if he will partner with Bobi Wine, JEEMA or DP, Muntu said time would tell.
