Kampala Capital City Authority will in the next 6 months focus on achieving improvement in infrastructure, drainage, street lighting, waste management, revenue administration and economic empowerment of vulnerable groups among other activities.
This was revealed by the Ag. KCCA ED, Eng. Andrew Kittaka during his first press briefing in Kampala. Eng. Kittaka was appointed acting KCCA ED by the minister for Kampala Betty Kamya, after the official resignation of former Executive Director Jennifer Musisi last month.
According to the new ED, the authority will focus in the ongoing Kampala Institutional and infrastructure development KIDP2. He says they are to launch the last batch of the roads under this project.
Some of the roads under KIDP2 are; Kulambiro ring road 5.7kms, Ntinda-Nakawa road four lanes 2.8kms, Acacia avenue to be widened to four lanes from golf course to Kamwokya 1.4kms, Kabusu-Bunamwaya-Lweza road from gravel to tarmac 8.06kms and Lukuli Road to Munyonyo 7.7kms to be rehabilitated with wider lanes, walkways and lights.
He applauded people who gave up land valued at 4.5bn Shillings for free.
The authority is also preparing a project set to be funded by department for international development of the UK. The project will cover 300kms of city roads which will be funded and maintained for 15 years.
The authority will also receive help from Uganda Roads Funds which will be used to rehabilitate roads including sections of Masaka road, Salama Road, and some Roads in Kawempe division.
“We have a program for constructing walkways in the city, it is going to be intensified and you are going to see a number of roads with walkways repaired and new ones constructed. We have to repair this infrastructure to facilitate the travel of people who walk to and from work” Eng. Kittaka revealed.
The authority is also set to carry out a study on the underground drainage network to take away storm water and alleviate flooding around clock tower and Nsambya.
