Hell, broke loose Tuesday afternoon when fifty-one grass thatched huts were set ablaze in a revenge attack in a village in Gulu district, when angry residents invaded Kati Kati C Village in Oitino Parish, Bungatira Sub County to avenge the death of their relative.
It is alleged by the attackers, that two village members identified as Agany and Onen had a hand in the death of their relative identified as Rackara.
Armed with pangas, clubs and knives among other weapons, the Kati Kati C village chairperson Quirino Opiyo, says the attackers threatened to lynch whoever they would find at home. Residents are said to have fled as the attackers uncontrollably torched hut to hut.
According to Opiyo, Rackara had been missing for five days after engaging the suspects in a fight at a drinking joint and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The violence which started at around 3:00 p.m is said to have left several residents homeless according to Gerald Alfred Ocen, the Oitino Parish LC3 councillor. He however says the situation was contained by armed Police personnel.
It remains unclear whether some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident but avenging the death of a relative is part of the Acholi culture.
