Drama ensued on Monday afternoon when an elderly man stormed Wandegeya Police Station in Kampala, staged a protest demanding to see his daughter whom he says has been missing for a week now.

A 72-year Stephen Kiddu who was accompanied by his son and grandson, was armed with placards labeled “Free my daughter”, “Free my mother”, “Free my sister” the family caused a stampede at police, attracting the attention of the Wandegeya Police Division Commander, Godwin Ochaki.

According to the trio, the family suspects that Phoebe Asabawebwa, 30, could be in one of the government detention facilities, as prior to her disappearance, Asabawebwa informed the family that she had received a threatening phone call from an Internal Security Organisation-ISO operative she only identified as Ssempa.

Ssempa allegedly cautioned Asabawebwa to stop whatever activities she was engaged in lest she is punished. Now, Kiddu says without his daughter, he is unsettled, adding that he has been in hospital and it is his daughter who has been taking care of him.

Asabawebwa was the Chairperson of a pressure group dubbed “NRM for Justice” and addressed the media in Kikumi-Kikumi, East of Makerere University last week.  The group had also organised a marathon dubbed “run from captivity” that was thwarted by heavy police deployment along the planned venues.

The victim was last seen after the thwarted  event according to Banalekaki. He adds that they reported her disappearance to Wandegeya police station, but police expressed readiness to help but hasn’t given them any updates to date.

Godwin Ochaki the Wandegeya Division Police Commander advised the family to cooperate with police in tracing their daughter, arguing that a team of CID officers has been directed to pursue the file including engaging with other security agencies to establish her whereabouts.
