A member of the Local Defense Unit, LDU has shot and killed a suspected cattle rustler in Kween district.
According to Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi Region Police Spokesperson, the rustlers allegedly stole 22 cows belonging to the Archbishop of Sebei Dioceses His Grace Paul Masaba on Monday.
Chesanga added that LDU personnel and officers of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit mounted a search and recovered the animals as they were being grazed in Sundent Sub County, and that the Pokots who were armed with bows and arrows fled after seeing the officers, prompting one of the officers to shoot live bullets which hit one of the rustlers killing him instantly.
He noted that the stolen animals are currently being kept at Chepsikunya Army Barracks and the body of the deceased is still lying at Kapchorwa General Hospital in Kapchorwa District and investigations in the matter are on-going.
