All candidates whose banners, billboards or election posters are obstructing Security cameras in Kampala and Wakiso districts will be pulled down, the Uganda Police Force-UPF has warned.
The warning was sounded by Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga on Monday afternoon, during the weekly press briefing in Kampala.
According to Enanga, officers at the Security Camera monitoring centres in Kampala and Wakiso districts have complained about some political aspirants and candidates who have used their campaign material to obstruct the security cameras, something that is affecting their operations and effective traffic flow.
“We are getting complaints that of some of the nominated candidates who are placing their posters and banners at points that block our CCTV Cameras and sensors. This hinders our monitoring capabilities as far as public safety and traffic management is concerned” Enanga said.
Kampala City Council Authority has also in the past warned politicians to pull down their posters in the city centre, saying they were illegal. While Police is threatening to pull posters down, KCCA warned that it will arrest and prosecute those behind the posters.
He noted that while candidates are allowed to make posters after nomination, they must work with the respective city council authorities to ensure that posters are placed in places that do not disrupt other activities.
“We are warning all candidates that your posters should stay clear of these CCTV cameras because security is a priority” Enanga warned.
