There was panic at Kakundi Heath Centre Polling Station in Lwamagwa Town Council when polling was paralyzed for close to an hour as the mob attacked and attempted to lynch a polling agent accusing him of stealing a ballot booklet.

Trouble for one Deus who was representing Samuel Kaggwa Ssekamwa, an independent candidate in the Rakai Local Council chairperson's race started when one of the 17 ballot booklets went missing mysteriously drawing the concern of the voters and polling agents at the polling station.

Ssekamwa is contesting with Godfrey Bajjungu (NRM), Eliab Kigundu Sango (NUP), Elisa Nicholas Ssekitende (FDC), and independents Ali Balekye, Kasiiba John, and Robert Nyondo.

However, unlike other polling stations in the district where the voter turnout was low, Kakundi had an overwhelming voter turn-up.

After at least one hour of searching by voters, polling agents and assistants, Deus was caught with fifty ticked ballot papers and his attempt to escape from the mob was futile.

The matter was reported to Lwamaggwa Police Station where the ballots which were confiscated from Deus were presented as exhibits and the suspect arrested.

Rakai Resident District Police Commander Charles Mubiru has instructed the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.
