Parents, teachers and students at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu are convening on Thursday afternoon to pray for the souls of their two students who were shot dead by security guards at a neighboring school on Wednesday night.
According to Okello Calvin the Treasurer PTA, 10 students candidates jumped fence and sneaked into Bright Valley Girls school from where the night guards opened live bullets on them, thinking they were robbers.
Moses Ogwang, the Community Liaison Officer-CLO at Gulu Central Police Station, says the boys entered the girls’ school through the backyard around 9:30 pm and moved towards the school store section but they were spotted by security guards, who opened fire.
The deceased have been identified as Brian Rubangakene and Emmanuel Okeny. The injured student is Kenneth Rubangakene who was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral hospital.
Ogwang says they also arrested Jasper Ogenrwot, Gerald Ocakacon, Herbert Kakaum (S3), Brian Obol, Samuel Okello and Daniel Ogenrwot.
These were arrested after returning to their school and are locked up at Gulu Central Police Station.
