Police in Nakaseke District are hunting for unknown thugs who killed Robert Mwesigye, the Coordinator of the Alliance for National Transformation political party and made away with his motorcycle.
According to available reports, Mwesigye, a 34 year old resident of Kijebejjo village in Kito sub-county was killed and his motorcycle stolen.
The former contestant for the Kito sub-county chairman's body was found on Monday dumped at mango farm belonging to outgoing Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament Syda Bbumba located at Mabbale village in Kiwoko town council.
Suleiman Kabale, the Former LC Chairperson of Kiwoko town council says that Mwesigye’s body was discovered by the pupils who had stopped by the farm at around 8:00 am to pick mangoes.
The pupils alerted him and he immediately notified Policemen from Kiwoko Police Station who removed the body.
Mwesigye is believed to have been strangled before his motorcycle was stolen. The attackers left behind beans and polythene bags which Mwesigye was carrying on the motorcycle. He was a trader dealing in the sale of beans and maize flour.
Residents say he was last seen at Kalagala village selling beans.
According to Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, the body had a wound on the head, blood from the mouth and nose which indicates that he was hit by an object.
The body also had bruises on the neck, which indicates there was a scuffle.
Ssemwogerere says they are hunting for the killers and a file on a murder/aggravated robbery charge at CRB 222/2020 has been opened at Kiwoko Police Station. Police also exhibited a torch and knife which they picked from the scene.
