Uganda Police Force is mourning one of their own, the Kira Road DPC, SP Mathias Turyasingura.
SP Turyasingura succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday evening at Mulago, where he had been admitted to the ICU.
According to his colleagues, the DPC sent a message informing them that he had tested positive for COVID-19, and that was the last they heard from him.
“Good afternoon comrades I have been found with Covid 19. Been rushed to mulago hospital. Prayers” this was his final message.
He has been described by many as a great leader and a friend to members of the media fraternity.
“Turyasingula Micheal was a good friend of journalist. I got to know him when he was at a rank of ASP and by time he was OC Kanyanya police station. He was a distinguished officer and many times he has been inviting me to his office. I thank the Almighty Allah for his life. I had hope that even in these coming promotions he was going to attain another rank. Sorry for the loss police, his family and relatives. Inalilallahi wa inalilallahi raghun” one journalist wrote.
According to the Political Commissar Uganda Police Force, AIGP Asan Kasingye, the deceased was a great commander and very patriotic.
“You were a good commander, patriotic, disciplined and always concerned with the welfare of your officers. DPC, you fought crime in Kira Road with zest & zeal. Rest In Peace comrade” Kasingye wrote on his Twitter.
The police leadership is yet to issue an official statement about the matter.
