The police in in Rwentondo cell in Kakoba Division, Mbarara city have shot and injured two robbers. The incident happened on Tuesday night and the suspects are currently nursing injuries at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says they recovered two machetes, 3 iron bars, and 2 army caps from the motor vehicle that was being used by the suspects. He however declined to reveal identities of the suspects, saying that they are still following some leads to arrest the remaining suspect.
He added that they received intelligence information indicating that three unidentified men impersonating security personnel moving in double cabin motor vehicle registration number UAB 647T purportedly to enforce curfew were robbing people in Rwentondo cell. Police responded immediately leading to the pursuit, which forced police to open fire at the suspects.
Police injured two suspects while the third managed to getaway. Edison Mwesigye, a businessman and resident of Rwentondo, says that he lost Shillings 340,000 and 4 cartons of soda to the suspects on Monday night as the suspects passed off as officers enforcing the nighttime curfew when they robbed him.
Kasasira confirmed that Kakoba police post is investigating two cases of robbery.
