Government has warned all travelers coming into or leaving the country must have travel documents and other evidence to support their travel, the internal affairs ministry has warned.

While addressing the media in Kampala on Monday, Jacob Siminyu the immigration spokesperson said they are trying to limit physical contact with clients, and applications and renewals for immigration facilities must be applied for online.

These include; renewals for work permits, special passes, dependent passes, certificates of residents can be applied for online at www.visas.immigration.go.ug.
He added that personalization for immigration facilities will take place after 42 days.

“This means that you can apply, if there’s a query, you answer and we can approve using out 10%. But about physical coming to immigration to have that permit put in your passport, you will wait for the 42 days that His excellency directed” Siminyu said.

He added that general inspections have been temporarily halted, but that the department shall continue to handle special cases when need arises.

Other works that will continue at the directorate will include appeals for people whose permits were rejected, removals and legal services.

“All visitations to the custody center are suspended with immediate effect for the 42 days” Siminyu says.

Meanwhile, operational hours for head and regional offices remain 8:00am to 3:00pm, however, this doesn’t apply to points of entry.

Siminyu told the press that applicants for passports and payment remain online at www.passport.go.ug. He however says that despite the application and payment approvals, all appointments for interviews have been halted for 42 days.

Those who had already scheduled appointments before the Presidential pronouncement of a 42 days’ lockdown, shall be allowed to reschedule after the lockdown.
