The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala has been directed to take interest in the poor state of roads in Nakaseke district.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among made the directive following a matter of national interest raised by Nakaseke Woman MP,  Sarah Najjuma on Wednesday in which she told the house ebout the poor state of the road from Matugga to Kapeka.

Hon Najjuma told parliament that due to ongoing rains, the road has become impassable with huge potholes and hence needs urgent attention.

The Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa, pledged to forward the matter to the Ministry of Works and Transport and that a report regarding the State of road and government's plan would be presented.

In a related move, the Minister of State for Environment, Beatrice Anywar has warned people living on shores of different lakes to evacuate as the rising water levels are expected to continue.

The development followed a query raised by Joan Namutaawe, the Masaka Woman MP in which she demanded that government accounts for the 45 billion Shillings that was passed through a supplementary budget in 2020 to assist communities that were affected by the rising water levels.

Hon Namutaawe told parliament that even though this money was passed, the people in the landing sites of Malembo, Namirembe, Lambu and Kakyanga have not been assisted. She appealed to the Office of the Pime Minister to intervene.

Hon. Mathias Mpuuga the Leader of the Opposition, weighed in saying that government needs to account for the funds that were appropriated by parliament. Tayebwa then asked parliament for time so that he follows up on the matter.

However, Anywar insisted that the affected communities should move away from the lake shores as the rising water levels are likely to increase.
