Residents of Namukooge in Mazuba sub-county in Namutumba district are in shock after their LC I chairperson George Tulilaba was killed and his body dumped outside a shrine in the neighboring Igelela village.
Tulilaba’s lifeless body was discovered by a group of children who had gone to fetch water from a neighboring swamp around 5:30 am on Thursday morning.
The children immediately alerted local leaders who rushed to check on the body and also called police.
The deceased’s body was found with deep cuts on the neck. However, there were traces of blood, which raises suspicion that he could have been a victim of ritual sacrifice.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the shrine operators who fled into hiding.
According to a family member, Tulilaba left for the usual evening social meetings with his colleagues in the trading center but did not return home.
When they tried calling, all his phones were switched off prompting them to physically search for him in the trading centre but he was not available.
The family then alerted the village security committee members, who on Thursday morning informed them that Tulilaba had been killed outside a shrine.
Diana Nandawula the Busoga East Region police spokesperson says that autopsy procedures are underway.
