Residents of Wiodyek Sub County in Lira district are in shock after the Amokoge Parish Chief Patrick Oming ended his life over failure to pay back a loan he obtained from Nen Anyim savings group where he was a treasurer.
According to the group, the money had accumulated to 10millon shillings.
It is reported that Oming who was also a member of Alik HCIII Management Committee is survived by a widow and 5 children.
The deceased's wife Jolly Oming, says that her husband had been struggling to pay back the loan in vain. However, at about 3 am on Sunday morning, Oming picked a rope and run out of the house only to be found hanging on a tree next to Alik HCIII.
According to Jasper Ogulu a staff at Alik HC III where the deceased worked, Oming’s death is a big loss to the Sub County.
The scene was visited by the security team led by Geoffrey Abigaba, the Lira District Police Commander who later handed over the body to the family for burial.
In a related development, another man in Okwerodot Sub County Kole District, also committed suicide over failure to pay back money he owed in loans.
The deceased is Sam Obili Olot a resident of Lela Munu Village who chose to end his life following pressure from his group members to repay the loan he had taken because they want to share their profits.
Meanwhile, another man identified as Sam Ongwec a resident of Ajokawelo village in Kole district has also ended his life over domestic issues.
According to David Okello the area LC1 who is also a brother to the deceased, Ongwec has been complaining about abandonment by his many wives.
The deceased was also recently chased away from home by a woman he had eloped with. He died on Saturday night and his body was discovered in a nearby bush on Sunday morning.
