Police in Mbale City have arrested two men suspected to have stolen a pistol from the Field Force Commander, Samson Okello. Police have also recovered the stolen gun from one of the guest houses in the same area.
Musa Safu,40, a resident of Nabigalo cell in Mbale City Northern Division, and Hassan Mafabi,28, a resident of Kikolomojo in Namatala Ward in Mbale City industrial division are alleged to have acted together with others still large.
They allegedly broke into Okello’s Toyota Premio Reg. No. UAR 296Q along Bishop Wasike road in Mbale City on January 4th, 2022 and made off with a bag containing A Star Pistol no 007969 code 52769, National ID, a Warrant card, and driving permit.
However, Police traced the suspects using the security camera footage, which showed the duo and three others planning to commit the crime.
According to Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, police traced for Safu in Mbale, Busia, and found him in Kona cell Osukuru Parish in Tororo District.
He confessed having opened the vehicle and carried the bag containing the pistol and other items. Safu further told Police that he handed the pistol to Raphael Situma who was traced from Namisidwa and Bududa districts and back to Mbale City where he had abandoned the pistol near Paradise Pub in Half London, where one of the residents identified as Moses Kisolo notified police, which recovered the gun.
The recovered gun is a black star pistol No .007969 with 15 rounds of ammunition.
Taitika says both suspects are in custody at Mbale Central Police Station pending their appearance in court on charges of gun theft. He says that the search for the remaining is ongoing to bring them to book.
