The Police in Lira-City East Division is investigating circumstances under which a SAR rifle with 7 rounds of ammunition was forcefully removed from a security guard while on duty over the weekend.

It is alleged that on March 26th 2022 at about 02:00am, Ocen Leo a security guard with Amazing Guard Barogole in Lira City, was on guard duty at Speedway petrol station along Lira-Kitgum Road armed when three thugs approached requesting him to allow them to park their M/V at the petrol station.

Ocen became suspicious but it was too late and the thugs grabbed the gun from him before taking off with it.

Police were informed and a patrol car was immediately dispatched to the scene but efforts to pursue were in vain since the direction taken by the thugs couldn't be clearly found.

According to ASP Patrick Jimmy Okema PRO-North Kyoga, the security guard has been arrested and taken to CPS to make a statement and to help the investigation.
This is the second gun to go missing this month in the region after another one was stolen from Oyam CPS early this month.

Okema says efforts are underway to have the guns recovered as this poses a very big security threat to the community members.

He called for vigilance from members of the public and to report any suspicious person to the police.
